Meadow Lake Library hosting free christmas craft sessions

Dec 1, 2021 | 1:03 PM

Over at the Meadow Lake Library a free Christmas workshop, run by friends of the community rather than elves, is providing residents with the opportunity to capture some of that seasonal magic.

The ‘Homemade for the Holidays’ promotion is a 20-day event where people can reserve a two-hour craft session at the library and assemble various gift items.

During the session, people can create personalized Christmas decorations and ornaments that can be used at home or gifted to a special someone. Each week features a unique selection of projects for individuals to choose from.

Tawn Marshall, programming clerk, said having the ability to offer the community holiday programming like this is something the organization takes pride in as it allows people to express their creativity.

“We’re pretty pleased to be able to have people come in and be creative again,” she said.

“Something that we like to do with the library is give people an opportunity to explore their creative side. So this is just a little snippet of that that we’re pretty pleased about.”

The first week of projects saw visitors have the option to create a personalized cooking apron or a sugar scrub. From Dec. 7–11, artificial evergreen hangings can be assembled using decorations, lights and other items.

The final week of activities from Dec. 14–18 will allow people to create two of their own mix and match Christmas tree ornaments.

Reservations can be made for groups of four, but up to two additional people can be accommodated, however, space on the craft table will be more limited.

These free projects, along with the Christmas Kickoff, are funded by the Meadow Lake Parks and Recreation Department through the Community Grant Program.

Manager Regan Beck said the funding represents an important component in the community’s recreational development, and having the ability to facilitate that growth is a top priority for the board.

“We’ve always tried to help allocate funds for new endeavors and organizations so we can offer more things in Meadow Lake and the surrounding area,” he said.

“That funding is massive to a lot of different organizations for a lot of different things that, quite frankly, wouldn’t happen otherwise.”

Anyone interested in reserving a craft table is directed to contact the Meadow Lake Library by phone at (306) 236-5396.
