Travel not encouraged on highways surrounding Meadow Lake

Update: Pierceland RCMP reports that road conditions have now improved, but are still recommending motorists drive with caution.

Pierceland RCMP are warning drivers to steer clear of driving on Highway 55 and Highway 4 in the most northern sections of the northwest.

The stretch of Highway 55 between Peerless and Meadow Lake and in the vicinity of Golden Ridge is ice-covered, as is Highway 4 south of Meadow Lake and north of Glaslyn. There are already multiple cases of vehicles sliding into the ditch in these areas due to the conditions, including semis and passenger vehicles. There’s also reports of difficulty traveling up the other side of the valley hill.

While there are no reports of injuries at this time, police are asking all motorists to avoid these areas until conditions improve. You can monitor the status of all major roadways in the province at Highway Hotline.
