Environment Canada expecting warmer-than-usual weather for Sask. in July

After a rainy week, Saskatchewan could see a lot of sun in the future.

That’s according to Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips.

“What our models seem to suggest is that when we get through this week, the trend looks like warmer-than-normal weather and perhaps normal to maybe a little drier-than-normal precipitation,” Phillips said.

“I think it’ll be warmer — not as warm as last year, but I think things are going to warm up. I think August might be a little warmer too.”

Phillips says it has been an unusual summer so far in the province compared to this time last year, when there were far fewer tornado reports.

“We have had three confirmed tornadoes and maybe some more so far,” he said. “So I think there’s a little bit more active weather for sure.

“It’s what you’d expect, not like last year.”

Phillips has one thing on his mind as the forecast gets rolled out.

“I think it looks like good beer-drinking weather,” he claimed.

The seven-day forecast from Environment Canada for the Prince Albert, Melfort, Battlefords, Meadow Lake and La Ronge areas were all similar with a chance of showers throughout the week and temperatures rising to 26 or 27 C by Friday.
