Vicious summer storm leaves mark throughout Saskatchewan

A potent weather system brought some intense conditions to parts of Saskatchewan on Saturday.

A weather summary report issued by Environment Canada on Sunday said parts of the province saw tennis-ball-sized hail.

The Barrier Lake region, roughly 50 kilometres southeast of Tisdale, measured chunks of hail around 6.0 cm.

According to the release, the chunks were enough to crack windshields.

Other communities in the region, such as Wadena, reported downed trees, power lines, and toppled grain bins.

As for rain, there was no shortage of it either.

According to Saturday’s weather summary by Environment Canada, the community of Wynyard saw up to 24 millimetres or roughly an inch of rain. While in Yorkton, the weather office reported 37.5 millimetres, or an inch and a half.

Wind gusts topped over 60 km/h in many parts of central and southeast Saskatchewan according to the report.
