Meadow Lake to host Sask. Hockey H.O.F. Induction Dinner

Feb 21, 2023 | 5:08 PM

The City of Meadow Lake will take centre stage for one of the biggest hockey events of the summer, as host of the 2023 Ted Knight Sask. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Dinner.

The dinner will be held Aug. 25 at the Pineridge Ford Amphitheatre, celebrating the careers and accomplishments of the five players, one family, one official, and one team that make up the class of ’23.

Inducted in the player category this year are Jeff Friesen (Meadow Lake), Wade Redden (Hillmond/Lloyd), and Ron Greschner (Goodsoil).

In the builder/grassroots category, will be Meadow Lake’s King family of Dayna King, D.J. King, Dwight King, and Danene Kopperud.

In the officials category, Mark Wheler (North Battleford) will be the lone inductee; while in the team category, the 2005-06/2007-08 Meadow Lake Stampeders will be enshrined as well.

This will mark the first year since the pandemic, the Sask Hockey Hall of Fame will hold their otherwise annual Induction Dinner.

In a release, Hockey Saskatchewan general manager, Kelly McClintock said it is an event the organization is looking forward to seeing return, and back to the northern part of the province.

“This marks the first time in nearly three years that we have the privilege of announcing a new group of exceptional individuals for induction into the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame,” he said.

“We are very excited to be bringing the Induction Class of 2023 and this event to northern Saskatchewan for the first time since the SHHOF’s inception in 2012.”

Proceeds from this year’s banquet will be split evenly between the Sask. Hockey Hall of Fame and the host community’s chosen initiative of building a new rink, after the Meadow Lake and District Arena burned down in June of 2021.

Last year’s SHHOF Induction Dinner took place in Yorkton and raised just under $45,000 for the local Junior hockey club.

The banquet in Meadow Lake will feature TSN Sportscaster Darren Dutchyschen as emcee for the night’s festivities. Tickets range from $50 (for an individual) to $350 (for a table of eight) and are available for purchase here.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Meadow Lake Aquatic Centre located at 615 Centre Street.
