Late game rally hands M.L. White Sox third loss of season
Despite leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Meadow Lake White Sox fell 5-4 to the Edam Blue Sox, last night.
White Sox catcher Sam Dawson scored the game’s first run in the second inning with Kevin Gerwing adding a run in the third. Quincy Winkler and Scott Fransky gave the Sox the 4-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Winkler pitched a full seven innings and while the 6’6” player boasts a 90 plus mile per hour fastball, Blue Sox batters were able to put runners on base every inning.
Solid defence by Meadow Lake kept the White Sox up. Second baseman Shawn Irwin made a couple of difficult catches and short-stop Davin Hildebrand added to the defensive stats with a diving catch. First baseman Chris Ellis also made a highlight-reel play. With a nearby grounder hit forcing him roughly ten feet off the bag, Ellis was forced in a foot race with the runner. He slid into first, able to beat the runner for the out.
