Radiothon raises over $1.15M for province’s only pediatric intensive care unit

The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) won’t have to worry about funds for its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for quite some time.

That’s because of thousands of people who donated to this year’s JPCH Radiothon presented by CIBC Wood Gundy and raised a record-breaking $1.15 million.

“(This total) is a testament to the power of partnership and collective compassion revealing the hearts of Saskatchewan people, who once again demonstrate that ‘we take care of one another,’” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all of the incredible support from the families and kids who shared their stories, giving us hope and inspiration each day. Together, we can ensure that children reach their highest potential.”

One of, if not, the biggest donations came from Prince Albert’s Gord and Barb Broda who announced before the Radiothon started that they would match funds up to $150,000.

In total, 32 radio stations across the province took part in the two-day fundraiser including Pattison Media stations in Prince Albert, Power99, Beach Radio 101.5 and 900; Melfort, CJVR FM and 750 Beach Radio; North Battleford, 1050 CJNB, Q98 and 93.3 Beach Radio; and Meadow Lake, 102.3 CJNS.

Meanwhile, the PICU is a crucial provincial hub whose highly skilled medical professionals have specialized in training to navigate life-threatening conditions and save Saskatchewan’s sickest kids.

According to a release from the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, over 80,000 babies and children visit annually and 62 per cent of PICU patients are from outside of Saskatoon.
