Fire breaks out at Meadow Lake OSB plant
Staff members are cleaning and assessing damages after a fire at Tolko’s Meadow Lake OSB plant in the late hours of Sun., Feb. 11.
Trevor Brander, the mill’s plant manager, said the fire started at approximately 11:55 p.m. in the dry screening area of the plant, and spread up to the dry bins. The plant has an emergency team which responds in these situations, he said, and the Meadow Lake fire department was also called in to help get the fire under control. There were no injuries, and the fire crews took about 12 hours to fully extinguish the blaze. Meadow Lake Fire Chief Neil Marsh said the department was called in after midnight, and a 10-person crew assisted with the fire for nearly eight hours.
Brander he was impressed by the professionalism and response time of everyone involved.
“Our first priority in these situations is to ensure the safety of our employees,” he said. “Everyone worked quickly to ensure employees were safe and the fire was put out. I want to thank our on-site crews and the Meadow Lake Fire Department for their tireless efforts.”
