It’s going to be a weekend of fun family excitement as the 61st Annual Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA) Finals Rodeo is at the Access Communication Centre this Oct. 24th – Oct. 27th.

“It’s an exciting family event because all ages are welcome. If you want entertainment for the whole family, this is the perfect place to come, it’s a very entertaining, lively atmosphere and you can talk to your neighbors and meet friends and family. And it’s just a very family-friendly event.” said CCA Partnership Marketing Manager, Lenora Bells.

The weekend will feature tons of different events including Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Steer Riding, Bull Riding, Roping, Steer Wrestling and Barrel Racing.

There will be 12 events every day with different groups from professionals to novice and juniors. The winners from each event will gain marks that will add up over the few days, and the riders with the most marks come Sunday will be given championship belt buckles.

Apart from being a great family event, the CCA also uses the event to showcase the history of western tradition in the prairies and what it’s like to be a cowboy.

“We have a real Western tradition here, especially on the around the prairies. It gives people, especially kids a real taste of what it was like to be out on the range and working with the cows and horses, plus they get a chance to meet the Cowboys up front.” Bell said.

The CCA started sanctioning rodeo events back in 1963 and has a long history with North Battleford, Bells added.

“CCA is a nonprofit association and we’ve been sanctioning rodeos since 1963. We have a history that goes way back, as North Battleford was one of the very first places that the Canadian Cowboys Association had their rodeo. So there’s a strong history between North Battleford and the Canadian Cowboys Association that’s been going on for a very long time. We haven’t been here for a while, but we’re thrilled to be back.”

Not only is there a long history between the two, but there are also local riders taking part in the event.

Dawson Loewen from Battleford will be participating in the Steer Wrestling event. Rigan Ouellette out of Meadow Lake will be in the Saddle Bronc Riding event and Nixon Kappel from Biggar will be in the Junior Steer Riding event.

The CCA Finals Rodeo gets kicked off tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 24th at 7:00 p.m.

You can purchase tickets for the event on the CCA website or at the door at the Access Communications Centre.
