Feb 1, 2016 | 4:58 PM

Leoville posed no challenge for Meadow Lake in Saturday night’ contest, Jan.30.  The Broncos defeated the Huskies 12-2 in the first of a two game series.

The Beaver Lake Hockey League clubs were pretty mismatched going up against each other. Heading into Saturday’s game, Leoville was 3-10-1 on the season, where Meadow Lake was top of the league at 13-1.

Darrin Caron, who has 17 goals and 14 assists for the Broncos through 13 games said Leoville came to the game with a short bench. He added the regular season wrapped up on Sunday night in Leoville after a home and home mini-series between the two teams.

Sunday’s contest wasn’t much of a challenge for Meadow Lake either. The Broncos handily won 13-3 to close out the season with an overall record of 15 and one and a winning streak of 11 games. The Huskies finished 3-12 and one and will face the Big River Braves in the first round of playoffs.

The Broncos will be a force to be reckoned with come playoff weekend. Goaltenders Mike Opikakew and Rick Dallyn are number one and three in the league for goals against average with a 2.00 and 2.82 respectively.

With seven players on the Broncos roster reaching 20 or more points in the short season the Broncos pose a threat not only with a top line but depth; having all but three players off their 26 man roster being held off the score sheet.

The Broncos top scorers include Caron who leads the team with 31 points. Ashton Mcintyre had a stellar end to the season, racking up 10 points in two games and ending the season tied in team scoring with 31 points. Brody Brooks finished third in team scoring with 29. Taylor Arnold and Randy Lariviere round out the Broncos top five in scoring with 24 and 23 points respectively.

Playoffs start Feb. 5, with Meadow Lake having home ice advantage right through the playoffs.

Their first opponent will be the Moosomin Warriors who finished the season with a record of two wins and fourteen losses.
