ELECTION 2016: Workers needed for provincial election

Mar 8, 2016 | 3:42 PM

Workers are needed for a range of positions in the upcoming provincial election.

Tim Kydd, senior director for Elections Saskatchewan, said the province needs approximately 11,000 people to work at polling stations.

“That’s for Election Day itself, or workers for the five advanced voting days from March 29 to April 2. We also need a few office staff across our 61 constituencies for the rest of March,” Kydd said.

“So far we’re doing really well, we’re seeing real community spirit out there. We have more than 9,000 names but we’re still hiring. There are still some areas we are looking for some people for different positions,” he added.

All election workers are paid and the schedule is flexible, meaning pollsters can work one day or all of them.

Kydd said they’ve seen a good response in Meadow Lake, Cut Knife and Turtleford, and are nearly fully staffed in Lloydminster and the Battlefords.

“We always need some extra workers because people are busy, things come up, so we always want to make sure there are extra people available,” he added.

Positions available include information and registration officers, poll clerks and deputy returning officers.
