ELECTION 2016: Sask. NDP defends spending promises

Saskatchewan’s NDP has come out swinging after allegations from the Sask. Party that NDP promises are adding up.

The Sask. Party said they added up the NDP’s promises so far, and they total $5.5 billion. NDP leader Cam Broten responded to the number in a dismissive tone.

“Mr.Wall is making things up on the back of a napkin because he doesn’t want to recognize that they’ve become the party of no ideas and the party that doesn’t want to fix and improve things for Saskatchewan people.”

Broten shot back that if Sask. Party leader Brad Wall wants to talk about price tags, then he should look at the Lean project and how much was spent there.

Broten said the Sask. Party used to have a bigger idea for Saskatchewan, but now they’re vision is small.

Broten said Wall thinks things are fine the way they are, but he talked about E.R. wait times, a lack of educational assistants, and rising utility bills to say the NDP wants to make things better.

“In my view, they’re not talking about what Saskatchewan can be. I think we can be a whole lot more, and we have to be a whole lot better.”

At the same event, Broten called for Wall to do more leader debates, because he said Wall needs to explain some things, like the disputed land deal at the Global Transportation Hub. Broten wants to know why the businessmen got a good deal and why Wall signed the deal when prices weren’t actually going up, like the government had claimed.

“Clearly Mr.Wall doesn’t want Saskatchewan people to know all this stuff, because he knows when they see what has gone on, they won’t like what they see, and they certainly won’t like what they smell.”
