Meadow Lake RCMP seeing spike in panhandling and public intoxication

Apr 5, 2016 | 7:52 AM

As temperatures rise and people start to spend more time outdoors, Meadow Lake RCMP have been receiving calls about aggressive panhandling and public intoxication.

The RCMP would like to remind the public there is a bylaw in place to prevent panhandling. In a media release the RCMP said panhandlers have been specifically targeting women and seniors. Police said if you are approached lock your vehicle doors or go into a public building and call 911.

Public intoxication along Center Street has also been draining officer’s resources over the past week. The RCMP wants everyone to know the arrest, processing and release of daily intoxication (arrests) affects the officer’s ability to be proactive and focus on other issues.
