RCMP urging public to watch out for ‘car shoppers’

Apr 18, 2016 | 11:06 AM

RCMP believe car shoppers have been active in Meadow Lake, particularly the Dunfield area. However, no official police reports have been filed which leaves the RCMP with their hands tied.

Residents are urged to report any theft, no matter how small it may seem as it gives police an accurate reflection of criminal activity within communities. Police sometimes do recover property believed to be stolen, but without a report filed, it cannot be verified and generally no charges are laid.

Car shopping refers to people who go around searching and stealing from unlocked and sometimes locked vehicles.

To help stop car shopping, the RCMP have deployed a targeted initiative to increase enforcement and by notifying police of thefts it allows the technology to be in the appropriate areas.
