An outpouring of generosity was seen Wednesday during the Bigger Picture radiothon at North Battleford’s Battleford Union Hospital.

Walk-ins, call-ins, doctors, business owners and hospital staff all came together and put forth their best efforts at raising money to purchase a new CT scanner for the medical imaging department.

At the end of the 12 hour radiothon, over $464,000 was raised to put forth to the cause.  People from all over the province phoned in and donated what they could and the efforts did not go unnoticed by all the staff and volunteers.

A number of generous donations ranging in the thousands were made by a number of people.

Former mayor of Battleford, Chris Odishaw was one of the first generous patrons and donated $10,000 inviting others to match the amount.  He and his daughter came in later to make an anonymous donation and said his daughter, Macy had recently needed the care of a CT scanner and Xray machine.

“My daughter’s a dancer,” he said.  “She wasn’t feeling good and needed physiotherapy.  And the healthcare is a part of it all, really.”

Ramone Becotte, a care aid for the hospital knows firsthand the benefits of precise medical imaging.  Seh believed the CT scan was a great cause towards which to give.

“ It’s very need.  Absolutely,” she said.

Another generous donation was made by Dr. James Lawrence of River Valley Eye care.  After putting forth a donation of $5000, he stopped to say a few words as to how he knew how important medical imaging was for his clients.

“I can’t order CTs when I see patients in my office,” he said. “But I refer very frequently to the local opthalmologist, and he orders CT scans quite regularly here.  So I know that a lot of the patients that I see who need to be referred for medical care do end up using the technology here.”

Another grand donation which was one made by Harvey Walker in honour of the Vic Pearsall Estate.  The amount was $210,000.
