Rush look to win back-to-back championships

Jun 2, 2016 | 2:24 PM

After finishing the regular season with a dominant 13-5 record, receiving a quarter-final bye and making easy work of the Calgary Roughnecks, the Saskatchewan Rush National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has an opportunity to win back-to-back championships this weekend.

Coming off a hard fought 11-9 win in game one against the Buffalo Bandits, the Rush can sweep the best-of-three series with games shifting to the Sasktel Centre on Saturday, June 4.

Formerly the Edmonton Rush, in their inaugural season as the Saskatchewan Rush, the team has seen sold out crowds of over 15,000 people including the May 28 game which saw 15,200 – the largest crowd ever for any Sasktel Centre event.

Boasting one of the top goaltenders in the league with ‘Stone Cold’ Aaron Bold, as well as top-scorers Mark Mathews and Robert Church and two-time defender of the year Robert Dilks, the Rush has been an exciting team to watch.

From the home opener to the May 28 game, attendance drastically grew as people from communities such as La Loche, Meadow Lake, North Battleford and more flocked to Saskatoon to watch the fastest game on two feet. Complete with live music from Armed with Harmony DJ Trystan Myers or ‘DJ Anchor’ dance routines by the Saskatchewan Crush team and tunes from up and coming band, the Johner Boys, Rush games have turned Sasktel Centre into the ultimate weekend party spot.

Tickets to the game sold out fast but more tickets have been released. As of Thursday, June 2 there are roughly 150 left for the game. It’s guaranteed to sell out so people are encouraged to arrive early.
