M.L. fair only days away

Jul 11, 2016 | 5:00 PM

Cotton candy, candy apples, rides for the young or the daring, including monster truck rides are a few of the things coming to the fair this month.

The fair has been a part of the city’s annual events for as long as Adrianne Ouellette, administrator for the Meadow Lake Chamber of Commerce, can remember. She said this year, board members decided to bring in something different and decided on a monster truck.

“There’s always a good attendance for the rides. It would be nice to have something in conjunction with them though and that’s why we brought in the Jurassic Attack monster truck,” she said.

Fair goers can go for rides in the truck, take pictures with it and have opportunities for a meet and greet with the driver.

“There’s been a great interest, I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback and it’s just something different. Everyone is always looking for something new to try and who doesn’t want to say they rode in a monster truck? It’s going to be awesome,” Ouellette said.

Ouellette remembers attending the fair as a child where she rode in tea cups and played shooting games. A few years later, the fair expanded to include bigger rides such as the tilt-a-whirl, zipper, spider along with games such as fishing and basketball shoots.

Canuck Amusements from Manitoba arrived in Meadow Lake over the weekend and set up will begin Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday July 13 with the fair running Thursday, July 14 to Saturday, July 16 starting at noon each day.

Advanced passes can be purchased from the chamber, Madill’s Drugs or at the front gate.

Entertainment wise, Ouellette said nothing is lined up but hopes to keep expanding the fair to include live music next year.

The fair will take place at the Meadow Lake Stampede Grounds with rides and games in the parking lot and the monster truck in the grounds.
