R.M. of Meadow Lake amends burn permit bylaw

Jul 12, 2016 | 6:00 AM

Those wishing to have a fire in the Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake will have to go through one more step if they’re near the provincial forest.

At the R.M.’s regular council meeting on Monday, July 11 council amended their burn permit bylaw. Administrator Gina Bernier said the R.M. has always issued burn permits but added those who live in a 4.5 km radius of the provincial forest needed a second permit from Sask. Environment.

“However, Sask. Environment is no longer giving out burn permits; they only give an authorization number,” Bernier said.

With the decision, the R.M. has taken over the burn permits for those within the 4.5 km radius. Anyone wishing to have a fire in the area has to have a burn permit from the R.M., then contact Sask. Environment to get an authorization number which they would take back to the R.M. for a second permit.
