Nov 15, 2016 | 9:00 AM

Meadow Lake city council has its new deputy mayor in place and councillors assigned to various committees following last night’s meeting.

Council was busier than normal at the Nov. 14 meeting, the first following the Oct. 26 election and Nov. 1 swearing in.

During the near two-hour meeting, council nominated and unanimously elected Merlin Seymour as the new deputy mayor. Seymour takes over the position from Annette Klassen who did not seek re-election last month.

Councillors were also assigned to 10 different committees.

Besides his deputy mayor duties, Seymour will serve on the Long Term Care Facility Committee and Museum Society.

New councillor Tom Harrison was assigned to the Meadow Lake Library Board and Citizens on Patrol.

The second newcomer, Glen Winkler, was assigned to the Meadow Lake and District Chamber of Commerce, Regional Waste Management and Recycling Committee as well as the Meadow Lake Parks and Recreation Board.

Long-time councillor Curtis Paylor was assigned to the District Appeal Board, and the Meadow Lake Parks and Recreation Board.

Mayor Gary Vidal will serve on the North of Divide Association and assist when needed on all committees.

Kim Chiverton will join Winkler as representative with Citizens on Patrol and serve as a second to Seymour on the Long Term Care Facility Committee, Winkler with the Meadow Lake and District Chamber of Commerce and Regional Waste Management and Recycling, and Vidal on the North of Divide Association.

Also assigned to the Meadow Lake Parks and Recreation Board is Conrad Read, who will also serve as a second for the Meadow Lake Library Board.

Every councillor, including Vidal will serve on the police commission.

The purpose of councillors being on the different committees and boards is to have direct and meaningful communication throughout the city’s groups.

Each of the appointments, including the deputy mayor seat, will be re-visited for potential changes in November 2017.
