Holly Jolly participation down slightly from previous year
The Meadow Lake and District Chamber of Commerce has kicked off its annual Holly Jolly Campaign to promote shopping locally, by giving shoppers a chance to win prizes.
Chamber President Wayne Marsh explained for every $20 spent at participating businesses, cards are issued and marked with a unique sticker, which can then be put into a draw box at the business. At the end of the promotion, all cards are collected and a draw for three prizes is done.
This year, 26 businesses are participating in the eighth annual promotion, which Marsh said is down compared to previous years. While usually a popular event, notable businesses not involved this year are Martodam’s the Clothing People, Co-op and Atomic Source for Sports.
“I would say businesses are watching their dollars and what they’re spending on promotions and trying to be as lean as they can,” Marsh figured. “I’d say it might be one of those things which was down to the wire where owners said ‘you know what, there’s probably some other expenses which need to be paid before I get involved with this promotion.’”
