Door of Hope prepping for annual fundraiser

Oct 16, 2017 | 11:55 AM

The Door of Hope’s yearly fundraiser, a banquet and silent auction, is coming up on Nov. 3 at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre.

Executive Director Unita Esau said the event always garners some much needed funds for financial requirements and day-to-day operating expenses.

“It helps pay our bills, purchase supplies, helps keep the place up and running,” she said.

The Door of Hope operates the local food bank and soup kitchen, a low-income apartment building called the Hope Centre, and also runs an in school lunch program that gives about 750 meals a month distributed at local schools as needed.

Last year, for their 25th anniversary, this specific fundraiser raised over $46,000, and Esau said she hopes even more is raised this year.

“We’ve got a desire to stay where we are, a desire to move ahead,” she said. “Our community is very supportive of us, and that shows in our fundraiser every year.”

She said the event is also an opportunity to share the work the organization does with the greater community. There will be guest speakers and a short program.

“We all are community invested,” she said. “We just want to do more and do better in the community as we can.”
