Survivor-style fundraiser to benefit students

Nov 28, 2017 | 1:00 PM

A unique fundraiser based on a popular reality TV show will benefit local students.

North West College is hosting Gift Card Survivor where participants register for a chance to win store credit just in time for Christmas. Kendra Rowswell marketing and communications officer for North West College said this was a new event for the college.

“It’s an elimination type fundraiser where you need five people in your team, and as long as one of your team members stay in the draw, your team has a chance to win,” she said.

Teams can enter at the North West College campus in Meadow Lake or North Battleford until Nov 30. The elimination draws begin on Dec. 4 and the final draw will be made on Dec. 14 when someone will walk away with $7,500 worth of gift cards.

“We do a few fundraisers every year to help fund our scholarship program,” Rowswell said. “The program provides assistance to the students at North West College.”

Earlier this month, North West College held two entrance scholarship ceremonies at each campus where over $52,000 was awarded to students. To be eligible recipients had to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and commitment to pursuing advancement in post-secondary education.

Rowswell said during the 2017-18 academic year, Northwest College is on track to award over $100,000 to students.
