Opening ceremonies officially kick-off Winter Games

Feb 19, 2018 | 8:40 AM

Thousands of athletes and fans filled the stands of the Civic Centre in North Battleford for the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games Sunday night.

The event was full of entertainment by local talent, an inspirational speech from curler Amber Holland and ground rumbling cheers for the athletes competing in the games.

Teams are divided into nine districts from around the province with athletes ranging in age from 10 to 16. Over 1,300 are expected to compete.

Joyce Smith and Shirley Maze, co-chairs for the opening ceremonies, planned the event over the past year and were ecstatic about how it went.
