M.L. RCMP respond to rural disturbance

Apr 3, 2018 | 3:40 PM

There were a few tense moments south of Meadow Lake this morning.

Around 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to a call involving a vehicle in a ditch, as well as a male on the road with a rifle.

Sgt. Ryan How said local RCMP responded quickly.

“Within minutes the area was contained and the situation resolved,” he said. “There is no danger to the public at all at this time.”

Police urge due care with emergency vehicles

During this incident, responders noted many motorists were not fully paying attention to their surroundings. How said many drivers started to pull out after the first emergency vehicle passed. He said fire departments and emergency medical services often travel at different speeds and follow different paths than police.

“RCMP would like the public to be cognizant police often respond with several vehicles, and will purposely take different routes to a location,” How said. “Once motorists have pulled over, they should check their surroundings for a second or third responding vehicle. First responders appreciate how much respect and attention is usually paid to them as they are responding with emergency equipment activated.”
