Apr 12, 2018 | 10:00 AM

An investigation is underway after a death occurred at the Meadow Lake RCMP detachment earlier this week.

According to a statement from the provincial RCMP, a 25-year-old man from Meadow Lake was found unresponsive in the cell area around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10. Paramedics were called, police said, but the male was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Moose Jaw Police Service will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the in-custody death, as per the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice will also appoint an independent observer.

As the matter is now the subject of an external investigation, police said no further information will be released at this time.
