Potable water station set up at M.L. Aquatic Centre

Meadow Lakers now have another source of water during the indefinite precautionary drinking water advisory.

Friday afternoon, a tank was set up in the parking lot of the Meadow Lake Aquatic Centre. The station is self-serve, and residents will need to bring their own jugs and containers to fill.

City Clerk Jessica Walters said there is no charge for using the fill station, and it will remain in place until the advisory is lifted.

She said the city took its time to make the most responsible route possible in providing the resource, both for health and budgetary reasons.

“We initially looked at contracting someone to come in to supply potable water, but that would get very expensive very quickly,” Walters said. “We are currently using the one tank the city had in storage.”

What also took time was ensuring the container was properly disinfected, as it had been in storage for some time. Walters said, for the time being, the city will only have the single tank set up.

“Depending on how much demand there is, we are open to buying a second one of similar size,” she said.

Water is currently being hauled in from the Green Lake facility.

The advisory has been in place since Friday, May 11, and could be in place for several more weeks. In addition to this potable water source, Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Natioan residents are advised to boil all drinking water for at least one minute prior to consumption.
