Nominations open for Saskatchewan Order of Merit

Aug 13, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Nominations are now open for the province’s highest honour, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.

Lieutenant Governor W. Thomas Molloy announced nominations will be open until Nov. 1 for the 2019 awards. In a statement, Molloy said the Saskatchewan Order of Merit is meant to recognize the most outstanding citizens of the province.

“Our province is full of committed individuals who have made our home a better place,” Molloy said. “I encourage everyone to consider nominating a deserving person.”

The award was first established in 1985 in order to recognize those who have made contributions to Saskatchewan’s cultural, social and economic well-being, and previous winners have contributed through arts, business, industry, agriculture, and volunteerism.

Last year’s recipients included Perry Bellegarde, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, author and educator Gail Bowen, researcher and writer Dr. Robert Calder, and photographer and arts and culture advocate Thelma Pepper.

Nominees can include any individual Canadian citizen who is a current or former long-term resident of the province. Full details on nomination criteria and how to submit a candidate are available online.

The winners will receive their awards from Molloy at a ceremony in the spring of 2019.
