Two radio stations in Melfort have joined the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, parent company of meadowlakeNOW.

The broadcast group announced its acquisitions of 105 CJVR and CK750 in Melfort Tuesday morning, and also acquired 89.5 The Drive in Chilliwack, B.C. and XM 105 FM in Whitecourt, Alta. The acquisitions, which are subject to CRTC approval, include the four radio licences previously held by Fabmar Communications Ltd. and all related assets.

“We’re very excited to have this opportunity to grow in markets that complement our other Western Canadian radio and television stations,” Jim Pattison Broadcast Group President Rod Schween said in a statement. “We are very enthusiastic to work with, and learn from, our new valued team members and local management.”

Also included in the deal were FabVision, a Saskatchewan-based outdoor signage business, and the online news portals mychilliwacknews.commytowntoday.ca, and yourtownnews.ca.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group now boasts three AM stations and 44 FM stations throughout Western Canada, along with 16 online news sites, three TV stations, and an outdoor video signage division.

Fabmar Treasurer Adrian Fabro said he was confident the stations and online portals are in good hands.

“It has been our pleasure to serve our listeners and clients over the past five decades,” Fabro said in a statement. “We are confident the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is the best choice to provide future opportunities for growth and success.”

The current management teams will continue to lead the four stations, the broadcast group announced, and all current employees will be offered positions.
