RCMP investigating after erratic ATV driver runs family off road

Aug 14, 2018 | 5:00 PM

A drive which was supposed to be a normal commute home for a local family equalled to a few moments of sheer terror last week.

Last Thursday, Aug. 9 around 10:40 p.m., Wanda Pevach, and her two daughters Kayden and Devyn, were travelling home to Dorintosh on Range Road 604 when she noticed the headlights of a vehicle which seemed to be driving straight towards hers. At first, she thought maybe the driver was intoxicated or in medical distress, but as the car approached, the veering did not stop and the all-terrain vehicle was coming straight for them.

“We had several seconds of absolute terror,” Pevach said. “I was confirming with my kids they’re wearing their seatbelts, I’m asking them to brace themselves, they’re screaming ‘Mommy please help us.’ It was absolutely horrific the feeling of everyone in our vehicle.”

Thankfully, Pevach was able to pull into the deep ditch to prevent a head-on collision with the erratically-driven ATV, and noticed there were two men riding the quad before they sped off. She said both her kids cried for over an hour, and said all three are still very shaken up about the situation.

“They’ve been having nightmares about it,” she said. “And I can’t take that away…they asked me over and over ‘Why mommy?’”

She called her husband Brent and reported the incident to Meadow Lake RCMP. While she has no idea what the point or motive was to this incident, the family would like those who were on the quad to know what they did was incredibly serious.

“What if it was somebody you loved? What if it was your mother, future children or sister? We certainly didn’t deserve that and neither does anyone else,” Pevach said.

In a media release, the Meadow Lake RCMP requested the public’s assistance in identifying two males in relation to an erratic driving complaint, and are encouraging anyone with information about this, to contact the local detachment or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
