Exciting season ahead for M.L. Mustangs

October will be an exciting month for Meadow Lake hockey fans, as the city’s newest team hits the ice.

A total of 41 games are planned for the Junior A Mustangs. The team’s first game will be Oct. 12 in Hinton against the Wildcats, and the home opener at the Meadow Lake Arena will be Oct. 20 against the Cold Lake Wings. The Mustangs will also have several matches against teams in the Western States Hockey League.

Brad Huziak, president of Meadow Lake Mustangs, said everyone involved with the team is glad the schedule has been finalized.

“It’s good to see it finally in place,” Huziak said. “There’s been a lot of loose ends to clean up, but things have come together.”

Other than shaping the season, the team has been busy with player recruitment and preparing for the training camp which will take place Sept. 14-16. Huziak said head coach Jason L’Heureux has been tirelessly working on filling the roster over the summer months and hopes to have 26 players on the bench this fall.
