Natural gas service resumes near Meadow Lake mill: SaskEnergy

Aug 27, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Things are back to normal a week and a half after fire destroyed a SaskEnergy building which supplied natural gas to Meadow Lake Mechanical Pulp Mill.

On Friday, Aug. 17, a fire broke out at the natural gas station adjacent to the mill, which forced the evacuation of most mill employees and staff at the nearby Norsask and Mistik Management sites. Highways 55 and 903 east of Meadow Lake were closed to traffic for several hours to give time for SaskEnergy crews to first turn off the gas, then for local emergency crews to extinguish the fire.

This past weekend, SaskEnergy completed the installation of a replacement building and full resumed service to the pulp mill.

During the time in between, Meadow Lake Mechanical Pulp kept their operation going with temporary gas service using high capacity trailers of compressed natural gas (CNG), according to SaskEnergy.
