North West College holds entrance scholarship ceremony

North West College held their annual entrance scholarship ceremony for students in Meadow Lake last week to celebrate those who show outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to pursuing advancement in post-secondary education.

Around $25,000 was awarded to 65 students attending the campus.

The 2018 major entrance scholarship winners are:

  •  – Meadow Lake Co-op Choose Excellence Scholarship: Edward Couillonneur, Welding Program 
  • – Meadow Lake Kinsmen Club Choose Excellence Scholarship: Cara Thompson, Office Administration Program
  • – Meadow Lake Lions Club Choose Excellence Scholarship: Kahlan Martell, Bachelor of Education
  • – PineRidge Ford Choose Excellence Scholarship: Sabrina Lambert, Bachelor of Education
  • – NWC Adult Education Scholarship: Sabrina Lambert, Bachelor of Education
  • – NWC Board of Governors Scholarship: Hayley Zacharias, Bachelor of Education
  • – Redhead Equipment Outstanding Student Scholarship: Kellie Iron-Derocher, Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician
  • – Redhead Equipment Outstanding Student Scholarship: Chazz Mysko, Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician.

Director of programs Melanie Roberts said the day is not just an opportunity to celebrate students and their abilities but the contribution of the community to the success of the college’s students.

“We are celebrating a fantastic community and their support of our students and the college and providing our students with an opportunity to remove some barriers for success in school,” she said.

Mayor Gary Vidal said he is always thrilled to see partnerships come together for the betterment of people in the community and the region. 

“To see industry and to see government and the college and to see individuals support folks in gaining an education is such a huge step in obtaining meaningful employment and success in life,” he said. “It is always enjoyable to see people working together for the benefit of students so they can succeed in life.”

An awards ceremony will be held in North Battleford on Nov. 16.
