The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport’s mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors.
The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly-motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Labour Servce Park Interpreter for provincial park lands within Northwest Region, based at Meadow Lake Provincial Park. Reporting to the Coordinator, Visitor Experiences and Public Programming, this position will be a part of the Visitor Experiences team.
As Labour Service Park Interpreter, you will require knowledge of Saskatchewan’s natural and cultural heritage in order to develop and deliver engaging, informative and interactive nature and recreational programs that make visitors aware of our province’s unique environmental and cultural diversity. You will coach and coordinate the work of other park interpretive staff by providing guidance, advice, and leadership.
Responsibilities include facilitating curriculum-based school programs, cultural interpretation, organizing special events, hosting guest presenters and guiding resource-based recreation activities such as canoeing and camping skills. In order to be successful in this position, you will be required to exhibit sound judgement when interacting with clients and co-workers. In addition, you will be responsible for creating seasonal reports, promotional materials and other documents.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of Saskatchewan’s natural and cultural heritage, outdoor skills and basic computer skills.
Successful candidates will have experience and ability to develop and present public programs, work alone with minimal supervision, exhibit sound judgement when dealing with the public, work in all types of weather conditions, travel within the region with overnight stays as required, coordinate and lead school-based educational programs, and safely lead outdoor excursions. You must have the ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg, including canoes/kayaks.
A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent is required.
