M.L. council elects new deputy mayor, assignments handed out for committees

Meadow Lake city council has its new deputy mayor in place and councillors assigned to various committees following last night’s meeting.

Council was busier than normal at the Nov. 14 meeting, the first following the Oct. 26 election and Nov. 1 swearing in.

The bye-election, scheduled for Dec. 21, will hopefully bring the board up to the 11 required members.

UPDATE: Still no nominees for NWSD board trustee in upcoming byelection

UPDATE: The Northwest School Division’s nomination deadline is on Wednesday and so far, there’s still no nominations.

Open until Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m., the NWSD is looking for someone to be nominated as a board trustee for Division Four, the Turtleford area.

M.L. MADD chapter kicks off Red Ribbon Campaign

Meadow Lake’s MADD chapter has kicked off their annual Red Ribbon Campaign.

A flag was raised in front of City Hall today, Nov. 14 to mark the beginning of the drinking and driving awareness initiative.

Conservation officers looking for moose poachers

Loon Lake conservation officers are on the hunt for moose poachers.

Officers received a call about a shot and partially left to waste cow and calf moose on Oct. 20.

The animals were found roughly four km. North of Makwa.

R.M. of M.L. places weight restriction on rural roads

Due to the “terrible” conditions of gravel roads in the Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake, council has put a weight restriction on all semi-trailer and tractor units until further notice.
