Author bringing her story back home
A former North Battleford author is bringing her “Journey towards Justice” to North Battleford and Meadow Lake in May.
Shelly Ann Wieringa whose book I Never Lied tells the true story of her early life growing up and experiencing sexual, physical and mental abuse at the hands of loved ones.
“I wanted to write this book for many years. I wanted the truth to be told, but I was just too afraid to do it,” Wieringa, whose pen name is Shelly Ann, said. “I thought if I exposed my personal life to the world many people would judge me or blame me.”
Born in North Battleford in 1963, Wieringa grew up in a toxic environment of alcoholism, violence and extreme dysfunction. From the age of 12 to 14 she was the victim of sexual abuse. Following a suicide attempt she told her psychiatrist about the abuse who eventually reported it to social services and police. However instead of the abuser being brought to justice,Wieringa was placed in Kilburn Hall Youth Centre in Saskatoon where she spent six months.
