Lakeview school campaign celebrates kindness in M.L.
Kindness can go a long way to brighten a person’s day, and a student-led group at Meadow Lake’s Lakeview Elementary School is acknowledging this fact throughout the community.
School Wellness Coordinator Nikki Munroe said encouraging kindness isn’t uncommon at the school, but last year she applied for a grant through Sasktel’s I am Stronger grant.
“It’s actually an [anti]-bullying program,” she said. “You don’t have to focus on bullying if you’re teaching these kids how to be kind. I explained that to [Sasktel] in my letter, and I got the maximum grant, a full $1,000 for the school year.”
She said the inaugural year went over very well last year, with students participating and adding their input to the program. The Clusters of Kindness group meets regularly to go over ideas for people in the community to give a card and flowers to. Some people who have received the gift include local veterinarians, health care providers, volunteers, the local humane society, business owners, senior citizens, parents, teachers, fellow students, and the list goes on.
