Broncos clinch 8-3 victory against La Ronge
A combination of teamwork and strong penalty killing were the Meadow Lake Senior Broncos’ keys to success on Saturday when they beat out the La Ronge 89ers, also claiming their spot for first place in the Beaver Lakes Hockey League (BLHL).
While the two teams were fairly evenly matched in the first period, the Broncos pulled ahead in the second despite getting five penalties during the period. DJ King led the Broncos with a hat trick and team captain Taylor Arnold netted a pair. Jordan Oystrick, Harris Cameron, and Logan Pethick rounded out scoring with one goal each.
Broncos head coach Winston Morin said while the team still got a few too many penalties, this game they figured out how to shut down La Ronge’s strong power play.
“We took way too many penalties again, but we figured out their power play a little bit,” he said. “For the amount of penalties we killed, we did a good job. That’s something we got work on, but that’s something you talk about, you can’t practice.”
