Extensive roadwork to begin in M.L. next week

Jul 30, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Starting Aug. 7, several streets in the city will be getting upgrades over the next couple of months.

The work will include utility patches, which are short pieces of gravel being done on a relatively good road, and full road rehabilitation more well-used streets, including Seventh Ave. W., Ninth Ave. W. Other areas also including the intersection of Highways 4 and 55, and the 100 and 200 blocks of Third St. W.

Jessica Walters, city clerk, said the city will be doing as much as possible to keep residents up to date with the roadwork schedule, including using their website and social media channels.

“The schedule is weather dependent, of course,” Walters said. “We’re going to post as we know they’re moving to new areas and when they’re getting finished up. Overall we just want people to be aware that we’re going to have some road work happening through Aug. and Sept, watch for road crews, watch for barriers.”

These streets were determined during road condition assessment by the city’s engineering department late last year, so this tender was done after the evaluation. Any surface failures which have come up in other parts of the city since will be done at a later time.

“They chose the streets based based on a factor that looks at the type of damage and extent of damage to the road,” Walters said. “It also looks at the traffic volumes on the road.”

K and S Asphalt Services from North Battleford will start work next Tuesday.
