Comeback falls short

Firkus’s hat trick leads Warriors past Raiders

Oct 29, 2023 | 6:42 PM

A valiant comeback effort by the Prince Alberta Raiders ultimately came up short on Sunday in Moose Jaw as the Raiders fell 5-4 to the Warriors at Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Moose Jaw forward Jagger Firkus had three goals, with all three tallies stemming from Raiders turnovers.

“It’s disappointing…he had three against us last time too,” said Raiders assistant coach Keaton Ellerby. “We talked this morning…their top line is really their driving line obviously. Three turnovers to a guy you don’t want to turn the puck over to and it ends up costing us the game, so we’ve got to fix that.”

The Raiders mounted a furious comeback in the third period and came within an inch of trying the game when Sloan Stanick hit the post in the dying minutes.

The Raiders and Warriors have now met four times already this year with the season series now tied 2-2..

Moose Jaw improved to 10-6 while the Raiders fell to 8-6-0-1.

The Raiders next play on Wednesday in Regina against the Pats.
