Adolescent Sexual Health Conference

The Adolescent Sexual Health Conference will be in Regina on February 11, 2016

Adolescent pregnancy rates and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Saskatchewan are among the highest in Canada. The number of people testing positive for HIV in Saskatchewan is also almost twice the Canadian average. Prevention is key; highlighting the importance of sexual health education for Saskatchewan youth.

Sexual health education is associated with several positive outcomes including:

• Youth having first sexual encounter at an older age
• Increased condom use and overall contraceptive use
• Increased knowledge about sexual behaviour and its consequences

To assist health professionals and educators providing education in the area of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute is excited to announce that we will be holding an Adolescent Sexual Health Conference on February 11, 2016 in Regina, SK.

Provincial and national presenters will share information on the following topics:

• Healthy relationships
• Educating parents about how to share sexual health information with their children
• Aboriginal youth wellness
• STIs in the child and adolescent populations
• Sexual health for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals
• Helping children and youth stay safe on the Internet
• Engaging youth in health education

Who are we?

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute is a provincial, non-profit organization sharing primary prevention measures and using health promotion to reduce the occurrence of disabling conditions in children. Our goal is healthy children. The Prevention Institute has worked in areas related to reproductive health since 1980. Our Reproductive Health Education Program has a focus on adolescent sexual health, including the prevention of STIs, HIV/AIDS, and unplanned pregnancy.
