St. Walburg Health Complex receives donations; plans to update equipment

Mar 2, 2016 | 10:39 AM

St. Walburg Health Complex is getting some new equipment thanks to an $80,000 donation to the Prairie North Health Region (PNHR).

“The funds will go a long way in assisting us in replacing the aging, obsolete CBC machine, which is a complete blood count machine. As well, we will be replacing the ECG machine currently in use at the St. Walburg Health Complex,” David Fan, CEO of PNHR said.

Before placing the order, which is expected by March 4, the region is going over estimates from suppliers to ensure they get the right price.

The ECG machine is expected to arrive fairly quickly but the CBC machine could take a couple of months due to how new it is.

“The community banded together, recognized the machine needed to be replaced and wanted to play a role in contributing to the purchase,” Jeremy Harrison, Meadow Lake MLA said of the donation.

On Feb. 29, delegates from the Town of St. Walburg, RM of Frenchman Butte, Twin Rivers Health Care Association and the Royal Purple Society met with Fan and Harrison for a cheque presentation.

“The community’s efforts and generosity speak to the very best of the spirit in our great province.  This equipment will make a difference in the lives of those living in St. Walburg and area,” Harrison said.

The CBC and ECG machines are being ordered in bulk, making the overall price cheaper through the Saskatchewan Health Ministry as part of their small town hospital revitalization project.
