Northland Pioneer Lodge Funding Update

Aug 31, 2016 | 10:09 AM

The replacement Northland Pioneers Lodge project has made substantial progress through planning and design stages since the initial announcement was made in 2008. Tender-ready since January
2015, the project awaits confirmation of funding from the provincial government in order to proceed with construction.

As the province continues to face a challenging economic and fiscal environment, funding for the project was not included in the 2016/17 provincial budget tabled on June 1, 2016.

At this point, we do not anticipate approval to move forward during this budget year.

Notwithstanding these delays in the commencement of construction, the past year has seen the establishment of the Meadow Lake Northland Pioneers Lodge Association Inc. to lead the $2.5 million capital fundraising campaign for furnishings and equipment.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the group of highly motivated and committed volunteers who continue to work hard to achieve the fundraising objectives for the project.

I wish you total success in the “Chase the Ace” lottery recently launched.

I remain confident and optimistic that the provincial government will eventually provide the necessary funding approval to move this capital project forward.

We continue to value the ongoing partnership with the City and RM of Meadow Lake and other stakeholders on this important project. The replacement of Northland Pioneers Lodge remains a high priority for the Prairie North Health Region in order to meet the existing and future needs of Meadow Lake and area residents.
