North Saskatchewan MP hopes to address several issues this term

Almost one year into her first term as Member of Parliament, Georgina Jolibois is ready for the next sitting.

After Parliament’s recess in June, Jolibois, New Democrat MP for Desnethe–Missinippi–Churchill River said she was able to take a bit of a vacation. She said she spent most of her summer traveling the constituency meeting people, attending events and listening to discussions on continuing issues in Saskatchewan’s North.

“I visited the R.M. and Village of Canwood where they were talking about various issues such as long-term care and the transition in the farming community with the aging population and the ability to work and attract people to the community,” Jolibois said.

She said her office was flooded with invites to events, which she said she tries to attend as much as possible.

Listening to the concerns of constituents, Jolibois said she has many goals for this sitting, which resumed yesterday, Sept. 19.

“I want to focus on farm safety, attracting and getting the younger generation to farm, then the health care system, long-term care and other health care issues,” Jolibois said.

On reserves, affordable housing, clean drinking water, roads, and business opportunities are Jolibois’ focus. In the municipalities, Jolibois said she wants more landfills, playground equipment, and construction on neighborhood sub-divisions to start this year.

To be the best voice possible for the constituents, Jolibois said she makes time each day to talk with people, listen to their concerns and address them as best she can.

Having such a large area, Jolibois added her offices have started work to hire staff in Meadow Lake and open an office in the city. The office will work in partnership with locations in La Loche, La Ronge and Ottawa. Jolibois is hopeful the office will be open in the New Year.
