Medstead grow-op raid is biggest pot bust in province this year

Turtleford RCMP, with the assistance of multiple police entities raided a marijuana grow-op last week resulting in the biggest bust in the province this year.

In a media release, investigators referred to the area as a sophisticated grow-operation. Roughly 700 marijuana plants, 2.3 kilograms of packaged marijuana and over $6,000 was seized during the Sept. 16 raid. Firearms were also found.

The raid happened in the R.M. of Medstead where three individuals were arrested and charged with production of cannabis, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Additional charges are expected for other firearm-related offences.

The bust is the largest amount of marijuana seized this year by RCMP in Saskatchewan in a grow-operation setting.

Cory Graham, 44, Melanie Boulette, 34, both from the R.M. of Medstead area, and Oscar Gutierrez-Reyes, 34, from Ontario appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday, Sept. 19.

Gutierrez-Reyes was remanded and appeared again today, Sept. 19 while Graham and Boulette also remain in custody and will appear next on Oct. 17.

Members of Turtleford Detachment, North Battleford Provincial and Municipal GIS, North Battleford PDS, Battleford’s Detachment, Integrated Organized Crime Unit from Saskatoon (IOCN), Regina Emergency Response Team (ERT) and SERM were involved in this investigation.
