Breastfeeding Week
October 1, 2016 marked the beginning of Canada’s Breastfeeding Week!
The World Health Organization and Unicef declared World Breastfeeding Week 2016’s message as “Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable Development”.
What does this mean?
We need to change how we view breastfeeding as a society. Breastfeeding is the #1 primary disease prevention that mothers can provide to their infants. We need to look at breastfeeding as a renewable resource that costs very little to produce and provides many long term benefits to babies for their future health. We need to educate society that artificial breast milk substitutes (widely known as formula) do not come close to the ingredients found in human breast milk, despite what formula manufacturers advertise to society.
