UPDATE: Thunderblanket, accused in murder and officer shooting, found dead

UPDATE: The suspect’s body was located in an area East of Revelstoke, B.C. RCMP has confirmed. 

In a media release, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said media relations officers delayed in reporting the informaiton, pending next of kin notifications. Officers will continue searching the area where Thunderblanket was located in order to compile all evidence in the case. 

The independent investigations office of British Columbia is now investigating whether there is a connection between police actions and Thunderblanket’s death.

A suspect in the shooting of a B.C. RCMP officer has been located by RCMP, according to a Facebook post from the City of Revelstoke. This has not been confirmed directly by RCMP.

The post says: “RCMP have confirmed the suspect has been located. The search has been discontinued and the RCMP will continue with their investigation. The safety of the community has been restored.”

The suspect in a Little Pine First Nation death is now the prime suspect in a shooting near Golden, B.C.

Corporal Dan Moskaluk with Southeast District RCMP confirmed Sheldon Kyle Thunderblanket, 40, who is already charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and other charges connected to a death in the Saskatchewan First Nation, was involved in the shooting of an RCMP officer on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The incident happened after RCMP stopped Thunderblanket’s vehicle which they believed to be involved in a theft near the community of Golden.

Thunderblanket allegedly shot a female RCMP officer in the arm. He stole another car at the scene which was found late last night in Revelstoke, B.C.

Witnesses on the scene said they heard two gun shots, one from the police and one from the rifle thought to be with Thunderblanket.

He is described as Aboriginal, 5’6”, 209 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes and considered armed and dangerous.

Numerous agencies are involved in the search efforts but Moskaluk said after a night of searching they have not located Thunderblanket. They’re searching within a four kilometre area East of Revelstoke.

Moskaluk said the injured officer remains in hospital.
