Election results for communities across provincial northwest

Another round of municipal elections has passed with towns and villages across Saskatchewan’s northwest electing their next mayor, reeve, and councillors to lead the communities for the next four years.

In Dorintosh, the entire village council, Mayor Derek Osbourne and councillors Sandra Bannister and Brad Osbourne were acclaimed following the Sept. 21 nomination deadline, therefore no election was held.

Being an unorganized hamlet, Rapid View didn’t have an election as they are governed by the R.M. of Meadow Lake reeve and council.

St. Walburg will have the same mayor in place after George Prudat was acclaimed following the Sept. 21 nomination deadline. Acclaimed to council was Murad Camgoz, Claude Lalonde, Walter Looshorn, Gary Nedelec and Robert Veenstra.

For the final councillor chair, Bobby Domes was elected with 82 votes over Jamie Hallet who had 16 and Travis Peterson with 18.

For the Village of Loon Lake, Larry Heon was elected as mayor with 65 votes to the 52 John Bellegarde received. Olga Janzen received 69 votes and was elected to council. Joining her is Myrna Molinger who had 109 votes, E. Sieben with 72, and Judy Valuck with 104 votes.

In the R.M. of Loon Lake, Greg Cardinal was elected Reeve with 217 votes over Perry Jeannotte who received 42 votes and Claire Elliot with 31. Elected as division five councillor is Murray Dopko with 46 votes compared to Rodney Schneider`s 23.

The Village of Glaslyn elected Ken Morrison as the new mayor with 115 votes. His opponents, Bruce Hazzard and Edwin Pritchett received 42 and 36 votes respectively.

Elected to the four council chairs are Murray Booy with 127 votes, Terry Chernesky with 90, Brad Davies with 97 and Melvin Pritchett with 94.

Green Lake’s incumbent Mayor Ric Richardson was re-elected with 148 votes compared to Phayne Ray’s 40. Councillors elected are Joe Gardiner who received 143 votes, Jimmy Laliberte with 133, George Gardiner with 126, and Darwin Lafond with 111 votes.

Ile-a-La-Crosse not only had the most candidates running but had the most people vote. Over 600 of the community’s roughly 1,300 residents cast a ballot.

Elected to his fourth term as mayor is Duane Favel who received 496 votes to Louis Gardiner’s 106. For council, 23 residents were nominated for a chair with Gerald Roy receiving the majority of votes with 291. A close second was Donny Favel with 290 votes. Also elected as a councillor is Vincent Ahenakew who garnered 248 votes, Peter Durocher with 225, Myra Malboeuf with 184, and Beverly McLean with 238.
