UPDATE: Cell service restored in Pierceland, landline and internet still down

Nov 4, 2016 | 9:25 AM

SaskTel cellular service has been restored to Pierceland and the surorunding area, though connection issues remain for landline and internet connections.

Dan Nesdoly, director of customer service, said it could take up to a week to bring all services back online.

He said SaskTel will have to completely replace the building which burned on Friday, Nov. 4.

“We hope to have a new building on site within the next day or two, however, there’s a tremendous amount of work to connect all the lines again,” he said. “Our target, although there’s a lot of unknowns, is five days (before service is fully restored).”

A new building is currently being assembled in Regina and will be delivered to Pierceland.

“We ask for everyone to remain patient, we have an entire team in Regina working on the problem,” he added.

A fire has completely destroyed Pierceland’s SaskTel building which subsequently disrupted landline, Internet, and cellular services in the community.

SaskTel crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible in the northwestern town, located 108 km from Meadow Lake.

In a media release, SaskTel spokesperson Greg Jacobs said there is no estimated time of repair.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Jacobs said work on repairing the service is going well, however with the size of the project it will take some time before service is back.
