New charges for accused in Biggar-area murder

Nov 23, 2016 | 11:05 AM

There are new charges for the man accused of a murder in the Biggar area.

Gerald Stanley was charged earlier this month with improperly storing several non-restricted firearms and one restricted firearm, a Ruger Blackhawk .45 caliber handgun.

The court’s information sheet states the charges are in relation to Aug. 9, 2016, which is the same day Colten Boushie was killed. It is not said whether the charges are related to Stanley’s second degree murder charge.

Stanley did not appear in person on the separate charges in North Battleford Provincial Court Wednesday, Nov. 23 and the case was adjourned.

The preliminary hearing for the second degree murder charge was also delayed Wednesday until April.

The new dates for his preliminary hearing are April 3 to 7, instead of Jan. 16 to 20.

Stanley was charged with the murder of Boushie in August, after the 22-year-old and four friends drove onto Stanley’s property, where Boushie was shot and killed. The accused has since pleaded not guilty to second degree murder. He is currently released on bail.
