Dec 6, 2016 | 11:00 AM

Three incumbent candidates and one newcomer were elected to the Flying Dust First Nation council during its elections yesterday.

Re-elected on Dec. 5 was Tyson Bear, Marie Gladue, and Richard Derocher along with newcomer Connie Derocher.

Derocher said he’s very thankful to Flying Dust community members for having faith in electing him for the seventh time.

“I think we have a good team, some pretty bright people, three incumbents and one newcomer who is a very bright young lady so I think we’ll have a good term for growing,” he said.

The four successful candidates beat out former professional hockey player Jon Mirasty, Flying Dust community planner Oneill Gladue, educator Judy Bear, logger Melvin Gladue, and electrician Lawrence Bear.

“On behalf of the chief and new council, we would like to thank the members of Flying Dust for having faith in us and I hope we all move together forward in the future,” Derocher added.

Jeremy Norman was acclaimed as chief.
